ON SATURDAY NIGHT, we went to the one pub in town that was open, our first time out in over 15 weeks of lockdown. There was a roaring fire, friendly people, even a happy black lab. It wasn’t exactly the same as always, of course, with hand sanitiser stations and social distancing, but everyone was nevertheless in good spirits, happy to finally see other people around, even if from a safe distance. We met new friends who also lived in town, and for a moment, nearly forgot about the pandemic. Only nearly, of course, because the virus is never really far from our thoughts.  Some of the other pubs in our village have waited until July 6th, and some even until this Friday, July 9th. We’re all still a bit weary, as being cautious has become a way of life now, but it was good to see people again out and about a little more. I finished my last book, Joan Didion’s Blue Nights and have begun the next, and this week, P is braving the hair salon for the first time in months, an event we’re both still feeling a little anxious about. One day we’ll be able to move about freely again, but for now, we’re happy to be alive and to have each other.

This week’s links include a beautiful minimalist space in Manchester and a recipe for Flaky Scallion Pancakes with Shallots; gathered blouses for summer days, quilted strap sandals and much, much more.
