THERE SEEMS TO be a strange matchstick shortage in England, almost as if everyone here has succumbed to a winter of lockdown by lighting fires all day long in our stone cottages, keeping cosy and making the best of it. That is definitely what we are doing, and I couldn’t find any boxes of matches anywhere and had to order mine from Lithuania, which suddenly came with a rise in shipping fees, as well as a new tax—all the fall-out of Brexit, no doubt. The new guidance for easing out of lockdown was announced yesterday and if all goes well, I’ll be able to have my dodgy at-home haircut fixed at a salon by April 12; we’ll be able visit pubs again by May 17, and life is projected to be back to normal by the first day of summer. It almost sounds too good to be true, now that we’ve just been so used to being at home with nowhere to go for a year. It sounds strange and magical to be able to drive away for the weekend, stay somewhere new; to sit near strangers in a restaurant or do any of those things we never gave a second thought. I’ve been more pensive than normal lately, dreaming about the possibility of it all…

This week’s links include an 18th-century apartment in Bordeaux and ruffled sweaters and knot heel sandals; a charming chapel conversion with sea views and pastel hues, and much, much more.
