Notes from the Weekend & a Few Lovely Links

Notes from the Weekend & a Few Lovely Links 09.10.11
@bontanicatrading

SOMEHOW ENDED UP in the book A Thousand Splendid Suns, the 2007 novel by Afghan-American author Khaled Hosseini. Have you read it? It has the alarming combination of being unbearably depressing, sweet in parts, and insanely anger-inducing all at once, and last night I couldn’t sleep because I was so incensed by the plot line and the character of Rasheed, who has no redeeming qualities at all. (Clearly I get too emotionally invested in things and will have to switch to non-fiction once this is over.) There was also anticipation and optimism this weekend, as the world waited to hear the results of a very important election. Here in England, the second lockdown began four days ago, and everything feels like it’s in limbo once again, but there has been some encouraging news about a vaccine, and the idea that maybe, just maybe, life will go back to normal (or as least some semblance of that) in the spring of 2021. In the words of Aristotle, “Hope is a waking dream.”

This week’s links include a magical wedding in Tuscany and puffer coats for winter days; what I use for glowing skin; the best Japanese restaurants to order during lockdown, and much, much more.
