Notes from the Weekend & a Few Lovely Links

IT WAS A BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND here in the UK, so today feels like a Monday, although everything still seems a little quiet out there. In England and Wales, schools are open again and if we were still living in Spain, we’d see people spending time reacquainting with old friends on sidewalk cafés after being away for a month. In Paris it’s called la rentrée and just about everywhere, this time of year means late-summer blues. I’ve been a bit glum for the past week, with the days drawing in earlier and the mornings and evenings so chilly! It’s worse this year because we never really had a proper summer, since most of it happened over quarantine. But still, there is also an eternal cosiness around this time of year as well–cashmere sweaters and candles and lighting the fire for the first time; there are figs and apples and pumpkins and tall leather boots and still things to look forward to…

This week’s links include a coastal country house and soft pink sweaters for autumn days; a recipe for shaved fennel and apple salad with smoked mackerel; an amazing-smelling candle and much, much more.
