THERE SEEMS TO HAVE been a holiday weekend for the past few weeks now, meaning that we were caught off-guard with closed grocery stores (and even many restaurants) on more than one occasion. Things seem to have settled into a more regular rhythm in the city now, just as the tall old lilac trees in the neighbourhood have nearly spent their blossoms to make way for dependably beautiful summer days. It hard to believe that two years ago already at this time, we woke up in Ibiza. The beaches were not quite ready for swimming yet, but the terrace of an old coastal restaurant served us the best calamares a la romana we had ever tasted. It could have been the olive tree-lined terrace, the drinks, or the sea air — or a combination of all three — but it our first year here in Spain, and our Mediterranean adventure had just begun …
