ON LEGENDARY VINEYARD IN BORDEAUX sits a the faded gradeur of and 18th-century estate. Fallen to disrepair over the years of a rather colourful history, it was to undergo a magnificent transformation. Enter Paris-based designer Michael Coorengel and his partner, Jean-Pierre Calvagrac, of Coorengel and Calvagrac, who were hired to choose a few paint colors, replace drapery and add furniture. What happened instead, was complete renovation lasting over three and a half years. When the designers began taking down walls and partitions, they discovered several rooms which had been walled up, long forgotten for decades. The result is a bedroom with a lit à la polonaise, 18th-century painted chinoiserie panels and gilded-bronze candelabras, Baguès chandeliers and Hermès leather . . .
