IF YOU ARE A LONGTIME READER, you will know that here at This Is Glamorous, we are a little obsessed with Chinoiserie and with de Gournay in particular (see here). And as the story goes, the company was started by a young accountant in 1984, who was trying to restore some antique wallpaper in his family home and ended up not only forging, but dominating a niche in the high-end décor market. Always innovating, the company has recently teamed up with shoe label Aquazzura to create a new pattern which they called Amazonia, a design in standard design colours on custom pink painted Xuan paper.
According to Aquazzura’s founding designer, Edgardo Osorio, “I love interiors and I’ve always loved de Gournay wallpapers. The way I met them is that I have a room in de Gournay wallpaper at my house that was shot by a magazine, and they called me and said we should do something together … I’m obsessed with what they do, everything is customizable, everything is hand-painted. I’m Colombian, I love everything exotic, so I thought, why don’t we make a pink jungle.”

de Gournay also officially opened the doors of its new San Francisco showroom on Wednesday 1st March, where their new tropical ‘Amazonia’ Chinoiserie wallpaper was installed on a custom blue Painted Xuan Paper ground.
