The Colours of the Sea

Décor Inspiration | Colours of the Sea

From the cobalt waters that surround the Greek island of Santorini to the palest turquoise waves breaking on the pink sand beaches of the Bahamas, the colours of the sea are always mesmeric and ever changing.

As a designer I look for inspiration all around me and the colours of nature—and particularly the sea—never disappoint. The late designer David Collins referred to this beautifully when he said: “I often talk about being inspired by the colours of the sea…I find in the sea’s waters everything from inky blue-black hues to misty lavender-greys and pelagic teal greens.”

So taking this idea of being inspired by nature, I’ve paired images of the sea in its many guises with interiors that echo each image. From the elegant navy walls of JK Place in Capri to Miles Redd’s design for a gentle aqua hallway in a Bahamian hideaway, you will see just how many tones and moods you can draw from this watery inspiration, and perhaps dream up a redecoration project based on your favourite part of the world . . .    Louise
