If you’re searching for grandeur mixed with a little bonafide Hollywood history, then look no further than the Los Angeles home of fashion photographer, decorator, and antiques dealer Matthias Vriens-McGrath. The crimson bedcover alone, is made of 18th-century silk; Flemish tapestries and Napoléon III armchairs covered in velvets and tartans add to the feeling of a long-lost château, but here, the grandeur is far faded, fireplace and pediments and ceiling medallions have all survived and are original. Add red marble, crown mouldings and canopy beds and the result is nothing less than stately extravagance that still manages to feel relaxed and charmingly cosy . . .
