Giambattista Valli Spring 2016 Couture, Paris

00

THE MOST PARISIENNE COLLECTION THERE EVER WAS. Flowers inspire Giambattista Valli every single season, however this time, they came from the Jardin du Luxembourg, the Palais-Royal, the Parc de Bagatelle and the Jardin des Tuileries — Paris’ most beautiful gardens, serving as a tribute to the wounded city after the December attacks. They were imaginatively transfigured onto embellishments and appliqués in the collars of A-line mini dresses and the hems of skirts, delicate organza reminiscent of petals, and the draping of empire waists and voluminous clusters of ruffles. Marie Antoinette was mentioned for a reason — the dreamy finale tulle plisse gowns in delicate pastel hues, and then a red poppy hue, were fit for a princess. Or perhaps, an Oscar nominee.
