02--Art | Paper Horses-This Is Glamorous

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA-BASED artist, Anna-Wili Highfield, creates the most magical hand-painted paper sculptures. Formerly a scenic painter at Opera Australia, Highfield created her first sculpture, a fairy wren, in 2008, and has since created many more wondrous creatures out of heavy cotton paper and copper or brass wire. Each piece comes together when the torn paper is assembled with needle and thread. Colour and detail are added by washing and speckling archival cotton paper with ink and watercolour. The artist’s work is highly coveted, and Hermès even commissioned two large Pegasus sculptures for its Brisbane store.
