Chic yet relaxed, and overflowing with charm and elegance, the beautiful building for Laurent began as a hunting lodge, and became a dance hall during the Revolution. In 1842, it was restored by the German architect Jacques-Ignace Hittorff, who was commissioned at the time by King Louis Philippe to plan the Champs-Elysées. The restaurant got its name from the first name of its third owner, in 1860.

The restaurant’s current director, Philippe Bourguignon, arrived as head sommelier in 1977 and just a year later, at the age of 27, was named best sommelier in France.  In 2002, he took over the management of Laurent.  Still passionate about wine to this day, he is a member of the Académie du Vin and visiting speaker at the Ecole Polytechnique.

If you are visiting in the summertime, be certain to find a place in the garden terrace for lunch or dinner—a romantically secluded setting, behind manicured hedges and next to a fountain designed by Hittorff, it is an oasis of flowers and fragrance, a bit of countryside in the heart of the Champs-Elysées . . .
