Had been playing with the notion of the Samsung Galaxy S4 for quite some time now, lured by the larger 5-inch screen and the 13 mega pixel camera, when by perfect coincidence, Samsung sent along the very same, and for the past little while, have been traipsing about, capturing moments as always, learning and getting used to new features & functions, and so, below, a few findings . . .

To begin, a very favourite mode on the phone, called Beauty Face, is essentially an automatic photo retouching function that smooths out or removes facial imperfections. [shot by p.f.m.]

Above & below, beautiful architecture [shot in HDR mode by P.F.M.] and eggs benedict on a sunny afternoon, Edinburgh — the extra mega pixels on the camera do make a huge difference, producing sharp, crisp, and vibrant images.

Secondly, the ability to change the battery and add more memory is essential, as nothing is worse than running out of battery power while out & about, or getting the dreaded message that there is not enough memory to take more photographs . . .

Above, one of the most fun functions : a fountain in Paris, shot by P.F.M., using the Animated Photo mode, which gives the option of selecting objects in an image to animate and to freeze, creating an animated gif in-camera — isn’t it lovely?

Another very useful function is the option to say, “capture”, “shoot”, or “cheese” to release the shutter, rather than pressing the screen, good for keeping the camera still.

There is also an Eraser mode, which snaps a burst of photos, automatically detecting moving objects and removing them, useful for popular tourists attractions that are overcrowded, as well as a Drama mode, both of which, perhaps, shall add to a follow-up article.

The Galaxy S4 is fun to use, light-weight, [especially for its size], takes beautiful photographs, and am so in love with the larger screen, may even consider the Note II alongside . . .
