. . . there is a saying about leaving on a high note, and leaving this year will certainly be that -- november and  december were wild and wondrous times, with moving houses and cities several times, reacquainting with friends and family in far-off places, and moments so beautiful, they caused one's breath to catch, and while there was loss, there was also so much love, and there has been champagne and fireworks, perfect midnight kisses and clasped hands amidst the city lights, and of course, there was paris, and all in the last two months, with so much left to tell of the rest of the year we leave behind . . .

but for now, wishing you an impossibly beautiful new year, filled with love and laughter, and the things that matter most, for the best is yet to come —roséline xo

. . . as you know, am very much a sequins girl, and especially when it comes to new year's, but this year, was very much inspired by bows on shoes and layers of tulle, and even more so, soft and romantic monochrome . . .

. . . and it's off for a beautiful few days to exchange work for play [with the exception, perhaps, of an instagram or two], to exchange texts and emails for conversations over glasses of champagne and candlelight, for friends and family much too much dessert; for home alone & love actually and mistletoe; for nights in front of the fire with those whom we endlessly adore; for traditions new and old, and for a few days away, filled with chocolate and magic and dreams . . .

. . . and over the weekend, took the train to glasgow, spending time in the shops, and finding the most perfect antique golden teacups and saucers, stopping for afternoon lattes and a slice of strawberry gâteau in the charming pâtisserie françoise in the west end; exploring quaint cobblestone streets lined with fairy lights and pretty restaurants, and stopping in for tea with p's grandmother; and all the while, even as we've only just returned from paris, immersing ourselves in the magic of the holidays . . .

The season of cheer is upon us -- the season of twinkling lights and blazing fires, offset by brisk, dimmed days and rose tipped-noses, of warm embraces, words of fondness, and delectable delights. 'Tis the season of joy, beauty, and love.



And to celebrate this wonderful time of year, into a haze of history and unbound beauty we go . . . Enthralled in lavish architecture, we uncover a city like none other -- arguably one of the most beautiful in all of Europe : Vienna, Austria. To a city dripping in artistry and culture, one embedded with words of history and traces of imperial grandeur created by hand, and sealed in tradition. And during this time of year, like a theatre stage, Vienna is most beautiful, and welcomes the world to take part . . .



Vienna is the largest city and the capital of Austria, with a population of about 1.7 million and counting; but it is the culture of the Viennese that keeps the traditions and lifestyle alive. Visitors could conceivably spend days upon days simply touring the many, many fascinating museums, cathedrals and galleries alone.

But, there is always an hour to two to spare in between site-seeing -- to duck into a coffee house and relax, for the Viennese are famous for their amazing coffee houses -- to slip into plush red velvet seats and sip on a beverage of choice : melange [meaning milky coffee] or apuziner [somewhat akin to an espresso machiato]; and do, of course, indulge and order a beautiful pastry to accompany, be it a world-famous slice of decadent cake, torte or perhaps a strudel. Indeed, Vienna's coffee culture is a world in and of its own, with the coffee houses being viewed as a part of everyday living -- a second living room, as some have fondly referred to them.



And for the musically inspired, few operas are comparable to those to be seen in Vienna; few operas and ballets as captivating. Notes of Mozart and Beethoven remain vibrant and present today, while legendary performances and unparalleled voices sing out amongst the antique seats and walls and ceilings -- pure romance . . .



And so, today we depart for the enchantment of this decadent and most magical time of year, infused with the splendour of breathtaking Vienna . . .

. . . spent the afternoon traipsing about town in search of last-minute gifts, stopping in for a festive glass of champagne and after, to pick up winter woods-scented candles, and so, as we wind down from the busy-ness of work schedules and draw closer to winter solstice, some holiday inspiration, even more still -- a myriad of wicker and firewood and nights by the fire, cosy cable knit sweaters and mistletoe, and hopes of snow-covered trees, peony-laden cakes and the magical glow of fairy lights . . .

. . . flowers and evergreen branches, candles and topiaries, for certain, but had never considered decorating the tabletop with prettily wrapped presents in shades of soft violet and smokey fuchsia -- doesn't it look so terribly chic and perfectly festive?
