Happiness is in the quiet, ordinary things. A table, a chair, a book with a paper-knife stuck between the pages. And the petal falling from the rose, and the light flickering as we sit silent.

— Virginia Woolf, The Waves

. . . whether the desk is immaculately tidy, or in a delicious & industrious disarray, one thing remains : there is always, always a bouquet of roses — pale white and soft cream, apricot & hermès orange, fuchsia or palest pink — and if there were one thing that can brighten any work day, and inspire torrents of creativity, it would be roses . . .

{p.s.} and of course, if you’re new or only just arriving, this week’s give-away, below x

  • oh so pretty! nothing like a fresh flowers in the room ♥ love that they’re pink!

  • I thought they looked like peonies too. Very beautiful.
Since our peonies are gone for now…I’ll look for that type of roses!

I buy flowers for my house every week… but my desk is so overloaded these days they sit on my entry hall and bedside table.

  • Beautiful – I love your Instagram pics. And, yes, roses are a must!!

  • naomi kasz — yes, they do look amazingly like peonies, don’t they? but that is actually my desk, and actually picked up that beautiful bouquet of roses from the flower markets, and they are, surprisingly, most definitely not peonies, but roses :)

if you look closely at the stems & leaves, you can see a subtle difference x

  • These are actually peonies, not roses ;)

  • Beautiful! There is nothing quite like having fresh flowers around the house!

  • Gorgeous, Im sure we both know how hard it it to keep the desk looking that good 24/7
