. . . have gold-leafed many things, including, even, the coffee table, and yet, somehow, had never thought to cover favourite notebooks in perfect dashes of gold . . .

{p.s.} in case you missed, weekend links x

I love these! Neon pink and gold are so gorgeous together!
aDORABLE!
rondaroush -- for the coffee table, i began with a glass top that was clean, and then used this gold leaf spray adhesive:
http://bit.ly/KizZ5g
to spray directly on the glass, a small working section at a time
i then carefully applied the sheets of gold leaf [you can use genuine gold leaf or imitation, also known as dutch gold leaf], one at a time, using a soft, dry paint brush to smooth out each sheet, and brush off any debris
after the entire glass surface was covered, i used a protective coat of sealer, which is required "to insure durability of the leaf, particularly in high traffic areas or for heavy use objects and furniture"; mine was a spray
please let me know if you have any other questions, and good luck!

OMG! Thank youfor this info, but tell me one more thing...I have a classic Baker iron coffee table, 48 inch square, glass top. I want to paint the metal, which is dark verdigris/blackish and turn it to gold leaf. I'm pretty nervous to start doing it as I don't want it to be cheesy, I've had this table for 36 years and it has served me well! Would you use this same method for painting metal? Am I making a mistake? Just ready for a little more glam after looking at the photos of Plaza Athenee!
Beautiful! My most favorite color combo!
