. . . have yet to see melancholia, directed by lars von trier and starring kirsten dunst, charlotte gainsbourg and kiefer sutherland, but have become completely mesmerised and madly enchanted by the wedding dress kirsten dunst’s character, justine, wears at the beginning of the film — strapless and corseted, and layers upon magical layers of tulle, and most of all, a stunningly romantic circlet of silk roses dancing about bare shoulders . . .

  • Wanna see this movie so badly ♥

  • I am SO enchanted by this dress. It is absolutely stunning. The shoulders and the bottom. Oh my goodness. It way overshadows Miss Middleton’s!!!

I loved the film’s plot and did not find it depressing, but that is beside the point. It is beyond beautiful. The opening sequence, the estate where it was filmed, the Wagner soundtrack–sublime.

  • My husband and I were married in the castle where the movie was set.
I still haven’t seen it, but definitely will soon.
    Thanks for a great post!

  • I’m so in love with that dress it’s not even funny. I’m in the process of wedding dress shopping right now and just looking at this one makes me wince from all the price tags I’ve seen. Has the designer been revealed? It’s times like these I wish I could sew (really, really well.)

  • Absolutely agree, Kirsten’s dress in the movie is to die for! The movie is wonderful too. It really stays with you and it kind of blew my mind. It’s not a movie for everyone, but I loved it.

  • The entire movie is a feast for the eyes! It is absolutely amazing and thought provoking. You should definitely check it out.

  • I saw this movie last month and fell in love. I agree about her dress. What’s so interesting is as the wedding continues she keeps peeling off layers and layers of her outfit. The dress is unraveling as she is. So beautiful.

  • i need to get married again. and wear that dress.

  • So beautiful, very romantic!

Loved the dress too but she does some not so nice things in it/to it.
The wedding itself is also magical, enchanting and regal (and really heartbreaking!) Liked the movie…

I think you either have to love artistic films or love Lars Von Trier to love this movie. The story develops at a VERY slow pace. That said, I LOVED it. It’s the kind of film that stays with you for awhile. Kirsten Dunst was wonderful in this film and I’m not usually a fan. My husband hated the movie, but his review doesn’t count because he slept through half of it.

  • I heard the film is beautiful. xo

  • The images are gorgeous and she looks so natural in those scenes. I just looked up the film as I hadn’t heard of it yet and it is sci fi! WOuldn’t have guessed that!

  • I watched this movie the other night and I fell in love with this dress too. Kirsten Dunst is gorg, and she pretty much looks amazing in everything she wears, but even the dress alone would be stunning!
Stunning dress aside, the movie was fantastic. I think it’s gotten some bad reviews, but the fiance and I LOVED it. We may be a little biased though, Lars Von Trier is one of our fav directors.
    Happy Monday!

  • I’m completely enchanted by that dress as well!!

  • I haven’t seen Melancholia either. But yeah, Kristen Dunst’s wedding gown there looks sooooooo gorgeous and romantic! =)
